Steampunk is seeking a Software Developer to build the technical tools supporting AI governance and program reporting for a large federal advisory program, working with modern Agile and DevSecOps practices across the tool's full lifecycle.

• Build and maintain the AI Resource Hub, co-designed and usability-tested with its actual client-side audiences
• Design, develop, and deploy modular, cloud-based application components for program tools and dashboards
• Build automated executive reporting and dashboard tooling supporting communications and program-management workstreams
• Participate in code reviews and quality assurance activities; automate unit and functional testing
• Troubleshoot software quality, security, and reliability issues, performing root cause analysis and delivering fixes
• Ensure developed tools are secure and align with the program's cybersecurity and AI use policies
• Ensure all outputs use open, standard, non-proprietary data formats and APIs (JSON/XML) supporting client data export and interoperability requirements
• Apply Section 508/WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards to all developed tools
• Document software code, features, and user/training guides
• Operate within the program's AI use policy — never processing sensitive, proprietary, PII, PHI, or CUI through AI-enabled tooling without explicit client authorization

Required: 

• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
• 5+ years of software development experience, including tool/dashboard development for enterprise clients
• 3+ years of experience with one or more programming languages relevant to web application development (e.g., Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, C#)
• Experience with Git-based source control (e.g., GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD)
• Experience with containerization platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with one or more cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Experience implementing automated testing frameworks, including unit testing
• Demonstrated experience building accessible (Section 508/WCAG 2.1) web applications
• Experience with open data formats and API design
• Experience developing software in an Agile environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate stakeholder needs into technical requirements

Preferred: 

• Federal or regulated-industry development experience
• Experience building tools later handed off to a government-operated environment
• Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Solutions Architect Associate, Azure Developer Associate)

Steampunk relies on several factors to determine salary, including but not limited to geographic location, contractual requirements, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. The projected compensation range for this position is $85,000 to $170,000.  The estimate displayed represents a typical annual salary range for this position.
