Contributions

Steampunk is excited to announce the launch of our AI Lab, to push the boundaries of innovation by incubating and developing prototype-level federal AI use cases to showcase the potential of Large Language Models (LLMs) and other new, innovative AI technologies to our clients. We are looking for an AI Lab Lead who will be at the forefront of our AI innovation, driving the development and execution of AI projects from idea to prototype. 

 

This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership, and a deep understanding of AI technology and applications in the federal sector. 

 

  • Lead the establishment and operationalization of the AI Lab, setting strategic direction and goals. 
  • Oversee the definition, prioritization, incubation, and development of federal AI use cases, ensuring projects align with client needs and policy guidelines. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI solutions with existing practices in data exploitation, DevSecOps, cybersecurity, digital platforms, and design. 
  • Stay abreast of advancements in AI, LLMs, Deep Learning, and related technologies, ensuring our solutions remain cutting-edge and relevant. 
  • Serve as a technical advisor and thought leader in AI, both internally and to our federal clients. 
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, effectively communicating progress, challenges, and outcomes of AI initiatives to our AI Lab Board. 
  • Lead the AI Lab team, fostering an environment of innovation and continuous learning. 
  • Contribute to the growth of our Data Exploitation and Artificial Intelligence Practice!

Qualifications

  • Ability to hold a position of public trust with the US government. 
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field. 
  • Proven hands-on experience implementing AI and machine learning solutions. 
  • Proven experience in AI and machine learning project development and management, with a portfolio of successful projects. 
  • Strong background in AI technologies, including LLMs, with hands-on experience in developing and deploying AI solutions. 
  • Deep understanding of LLM model architecture, model refinement and fine tuning, prompt engineering, ensemble models, and mixtures of experts. 
  • Deep understanding of GPU-based compute and familiarity with GPU hardware-based services in the three major cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) 
  • Hands-on experience working with DevSecOps engineers to support a DataOps / MLOps environment. 
  • Familiarity with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions. 
  • Familiarity with federal IT standards and requirements, with a preference for candidates with experience in the federal government sector. 
  • Innovative thinker with a track record of identifying and implementing emerging AI technologies in practical, impactful ways. 
  • Exceptional leadership skills with experience building and managing technical teams. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of translating complex technical details into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences.
