  • Overview

    Steampunk is looking for a Systems Engineer to support one of our federal customers.  They will support a dynamic team that provide engineering services across a variety of platforms and technology.  The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, who is interested in learning the latest technology and has a proven ability to learn quickly and apply training to solve real world engineering problems.


    • Provide strategic and engineering guidance to customer, program team, and project managers regarding technology evaluation, planning, and implementation
    • Develop technology roadmaps, providing technical advice and develop solutions to address customer requirements
    • Conduct Engineering sessions, develop and refine activity sequences and level of effort estimates for project managers as requested in order to develop project schedules
    • Design and implement engineering projects as directed by the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) such as, but not limited to:
      • Cloud service implementations with a focus on AWS and Azure using vendor, government, and industry best practices, including Hybrid implementation / integration planning and execution.
      • Cloud automation with Azure workflow and/or AWS application deployment. 
      • Single-sign-on (SSO) that operates within the DHS standards and SSO infrastructure
      • Microsoft tools and technologies such as AD, Exchange, Office 365, DNS, SharePoint, RMS, SCCM
      • Security Information and Event Management tools such as McAfee Enterprise Security Manager
      • Virtualization technologies and management (VMware, Hyper-V)
      • Storage Area Network (SAN) such as Dell Compellent
      • Federated, fully integrated Microsoft Lync 2013 collaboration tool suite and web conferencing capability for desktop clients
      • Enhancements, implementation and configuration management of security monitoring, data logging and other utility servers, dashboards and console applications used to monitor and manage the IT infrastructure
      • Enhancements, implement and maintain client platform (i.e. desktop, laptop, VDI) designs that include software images and hardware configurations and image updates
    • Build servers with standard build guidelines, harden and work with Information Assurance to remediate findings after IT Security scans
    • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), “As Is” documentation, Installation Instructions and any other required O&M transition documentation as required
    • Work with Infrastructure Engineering team members to meet requirements and deadlines
    • Provide Tier II and Tier III end-user rollout and troubleshooting support as directed


    Minimum Education

    Master’s Degree and/or 15+ Years of Experience Performing Systems Engineering

    Required Skills/Experience

    • Must have at a minimum a Microsoft certification such as Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
    • Experience with cloud service implementations with a focus on AWS and Azure using industry best practices
    • Experience in implementing cloud automation with Azure workflow and/or AWS application deployment
    • Experience in System Engineering in one or more areas including cloud architecture, integration, and deployment; telecommunications and VOIP; operating systems; databases; mobile device management (MDM) systems; middleware
    • Experience with secure mobile solutions, such as, but not limited to: Microsoft Exchange (Active Sync), Microsoft Intune (MDM), AirWatch (MDM), JAMF Casper
    • Experience with messaging systems, collaboration software, application-based firewall and proxy server(s), and operating systems
    • Experience managing a VPN server solution Such as Juniper Security Appliance (SA)
    • Experience managing a Virtualization solutions such as VMware & Microsoft Hyper-V
    • Experience with deploying & hardening Windows Server 2016, Apple OSX, IOS platforms(s)
    • Experience managing MS Threat Management Gateway (TMG)
    • Experience deploying and using leading security tools including but not limited to:
      • McAfee Enterprise Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)
      • ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO)
      • Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
      • Host Intrusion Prevention for Servers (HIPS)
      • Imperva
      • EnCase Forensic
      • DbProtect
      • HP WebInspect
      • Netsparker Web Application Security Scanner
      • Xceedium
    • Experience developing SOP's

    US Citizenship is required by the contract

    Preferred Skills 

    • Excellent communications (written and verbal) and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to maintain workload in a fast paced environment with rapidly changing priorities
